eduStyle Awards

eduStyle Awards logo

I’m a little slow on this, but eduStyle has annouced the winners of the eduStyle Awards on July 22nd in Atlantic City. There were eighteen categories with both judged and peoples choice winners. I won’t give anything away, you’ll have to visit eduStyle to see the winners.

Now with less fat

Despite how much I prefer PNGs over Jpegs, using them for thumbnails in the gallery wasn’t the best design decision. They resulted in some truly enormous page sizes (sometimes close to 2 megs if you can believe it!). Honestly, the only reason I’ve resisted switching over to Jpegs is because of the logistics of it. I knew converting 2000 sites over would be a huge job.

Luckily, I came up with a different solution that allowed me to use Jpegs for all sites today moving forward. Maybe at some point when I feel up to it I’ll convert the rest of them over, but that might be a far off day.

If there are any other little issues that bug you, be sure to post it over on the feedback page, http://feedback.dezinspiration.com/

Submit your feature requests!

UserVoice

Thanks to the wonderful folks over at UserVoice, we now have a fancy feature request/voting system. Vote up a feature you’d like to see or write-in your own. You can also add comments and specify a priority. Very democratic :)

To use it, just click on the “Feedback” button on the right side of the screen or go to http://feedback.dezinspiration.com/

Now get to it!

dezinspiration now accepting submissions

We’ve been a little hesitant in rolling this out until some of our other systems were more mature, but as of last night we are now accepting direct submission. The form is here.

We’ve got some more cool features coming down the chute, so stay tuned.

Link: 9 Design Styles to get you Into CSS Galleries

Just came across this today (I know it’s a little old). I’m not opposed to jumping on design trend bandwagons, but these won’t get you into any gallery automatically. It’s all about the execution. In fact, there are probably many more designs in dezinspiration outside these 9 as there are in. I would argue it doesn’t really matter what style you choose as long as you put the time in and pay attention to the details.

Why it pays to get in a design gallery

Cleverful is a talented design company with a smart looking website. They’ve noted on their blog the impact of being featured in a number of design galleries is having on their business:

Cleverful was recently featured on a few different design sites, mainly CSSElite.com.  Since then we have been receiving roughly four requests an hour for custom design work, php coding, exclusive contracts and wordpress help.

Popular CSS Gallery design ripped off

Just came across this on Digg. Do people really think they can get away with this crap? Not only did he totally rip of the design, he’s being a dick about it now.

CSS Remix (the orig) on the left and CSS.WeAreTheBuzz.com (the rip) on the right.

I’d encourage you to post your comments supporting CSS Remix either on his Digg post or this one.

Back from France

You may have noticed things have been a little slow/erratic around here. Well, I just got back from two weeks vacation in France (it was very nice, you should go). I expect things to get back to normal here shortly.

eduStyle People Choice voting now open

Sister site eduStyle has just opened People Choice voting for the upcoming eduStyle Awards. The eduStyle Higher-ed Web Awards celebrate the best work in college and university websites and will culminate with a live awards ceremony at the eduWEB Conference in Atlantic City, NJ in July. Voting is open to everyone, you just need to register on the site in order to vote.

Editor’s Pick: University of Central Arkansas

We don’t see a lot of higher-ed sites come through, so when we see a good one it’s nice to give it a little attention.

For more higher-ed sites, check out http://www.edustyle.net
